* In class we have been learning about decimals, and their place value. Now we have begun to add and subtract decimals. When it comes to decimals you can find them when going shopping (money), distances, weight, and many other ways. It is important that you relate decimals to real life in order to understand it more, the easiest way is to relate it to money. 

 * En clase estamos aprendiendo sobre los decimales y sus valores posicionales. Ahora hemos comenzado a sumar y restar 
decimales. Puedes encontrar decimales al ir de compras (dinero), en distancias, peso, y en muchos otros lugares. Es importante relacionar los decimales a la vida real para poder aprender y captar el concepto, de esta manera sera mucho mas fácil para ti.

Los bosques tropicales / Rainforest

En ciencias hemos estado aprendiendo sobre los distintos ecosistemas. Un ecosistema esta compuesto por seres vivos y seres no vivos, o muerto. En el los seres viven y comparten un mismo habitat.

Los bosques tropicales (Rainforest) son uno de los distintos ecositemas que existen. Los bosques tropicales son caracterizados por su clima caluroso y humedo durante todo el ano. Ellos estan hubicados en la zonas cercas a la linea del ecuador. Es por esto que el clima es usualmente es humedo y lluvioso. En los bosques lluviosos viven distintos seres vivos y no vivos que comparten el mismo habitat.

Apesar de todo los beneficios de los bosques tropicales, las personas estan danandolos para su propio beneficio.

*** Haras una investigacion usando el computador, y libros para comprender cuales son los problemas que estan causando las personas en los bosques tropicales y como podemos ayudar a proteger este ecosistema que tanto nos da. **

During writing we are learning about facts vs. opinions. 

Facts= A statement that can be proven to be true. 

Opinion= Someone's thoughts about something usually begin with "I think", "I believe", etc. but cannot be proven to be true.

New York

In class we have learned about the United States geography. Now, we are focusing on the state in which we live in, NEW YORK!! As you know, NY is one of the 50 states of the U.S, and is located northeast of the country. You will do research to continue learning about the 2 locations you picked in class where you will like to visit one day. Some ideas were: Empire state building , Statue of Liberty, Freedom Tower and Twin Tower memorial, Central Park, and many more in New York City. Some students were also interested in visiting locations in New York State like Niagara Falls, Bear Mountain, Seven Lakes, Albany, etc. Now, get your hands on your two locations of interest by researching as much as you can... 

En clase hemos aprendido sobre la geografia de los Estados Unidos. Ahora nos estamos enfocando en el estado donde vivimos, NUEVA YORK! Como sabes, NY es uno de los 50 estados de E.U, y esta localizado al noreste del país. Tendrás que hacer una investigación  para continuar aprendiendo sobre los 2 lugares que escogiste en clase que te gustaría visitar algún dia. Algunas ideas fueron; El empire state building, la estatua de la libertad, la torre de la libertad y memorial de las torres gemelas, el parque central, y muchos mas en la ciudad de NY. Algunos estudiantes también dijeron que les gustaría conocer otros lugares que no están en la ciudad, sino que en el estado de Nueva  York. Algunas ideas fueron; Las cataratas del niagara, la montaña del oso, los siete lagos, Albany, etc. Ahora, manos a la obra para continuar aprendiendo sobre tu investigación!

United States Geography

In Social Studies we continue to learn about the Geography of the world. Now that we learned the continents, oceans, and began to focus on North America, we will focus even more on the country in which we live in. The United States is a fascinating country with a lot of geography. Here are some facts we will learn soon:

1. There are 50 states in the United States
2. The United States has 48 states within the U.S and 2 states outside of its borders (Hawaii and Alaska).
3. Puerto Rico is also part of the United States, but it is called a "Common Wealth" instead of a state. 
4. The United States is one of the world's largest countries now, but it only began with 13 colonies and little by little it became what we know today. 
5. There are different landscapes different regions of the country including, forest, mountains, plains, etc. 
6. Washington D.C is the capital of the country.

 En Estudios Sociales continuamos aprendiendo sobre la geografia del mundo. Ahora que hemos aprendido sobre los continentes y océanos nos enfocamos en el continente de Norte America (o también conocido como America del Norte), el país donde vivimos. Estados Unidos es un país fascinante con mucha geografía. Aquí hay algunas verdades que aprenderas en clase:

1. Hay 50 estados en Estados Unidos.
2. E.U tiene 48 estados dentro del país, y 2 fuera de sus fronteras (Hawaii y Alaska).
